Sales Executive / Manager – Logistics - Scotland

Principal Responsibilities
• You will be responsible for winning new business. 
• Competent in establishing key contacts within the marketplace and securing new profitable accounts
• Fully responsible for organising daily calls and appointments
• You will need to have some contacts within the marketplace and be capable of opening doors to establish new ones.
• Must have a proven track record of winning new business within the supply chain solutions, warehousing, distribution, intermodal or storage industries.
• Ideally you will currently be in a similar role within the logistics / supply chain sector and have extensive knowledge of this market


Skills and Experience
• You should possess a strong sales background gained within a transportation / distribution / logistics environment.
• You will be a confident communicator and sound negotiator at all levels and able to track and "hunt" potential new business opportunities within the market sector.
• Ideally, you will have experience within a similar role, with strong client contacts and solid knowledge of the industry to be able to confidently source and negotiate with clients face to face.
• This is a “winning new business role” with an emphasis of building long-term relationships and information gathering to ultimately secure additional business in the longer term.
• You should be proactive, knowledgeable in your own arena, have excellent communication skills at all levels and the ability to form successful clients relationships.

Rail Terminal – Depot Operations Manager (based at Barking)

 

We are currently looking to recruit an experienced Depot Operations Manager to join the team and play a critical role in further developing our Rail Terminal business at Barking. The successful candidate will be responsible for all terminal activity but with particular focus on rail.


Key Responsibilities:-

  • To plan, organise, develop and manage the efficient operation of the Rail Freight Terminal to provide a safe, efficient and cost effective Rail Logistics Service to Customers and the JGR Business.
  • Liaison with Freight Operating Companies and Network Rail on current train running and yard working issues. Pre-empt planned stock movements, road vehicle movements, rail arrivals and departures and schedule all rail terminal activity accordingly.  Initiate action to maintain and restore service levels at times of resource shortage, late running, yard congestion etc.
  • Responsible for carrying out duties to meet Legislative and Company Standard requirements as detailed in Statutory and Company Regulations.
  • Proactively sell the advantages of the rail terminal to further encourage modal shift within the industry.

Key Capabilities:-

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in railway operations within a major organisation, some of which must have been at workplace level.
  • Appreciation of the Health & Safety at Work Act [H.S.A.W.A.], Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems Regulations (ROGS), Railway Group Standards (RGS), Control Of Substances Hazardous to Health [COSHH], Local risk Assessments, Department of Transport Security Arrangements for Channel Tunnel Traffic, HMRC procedures, Safe Loading and Securing and other industry standards and legislative requirements.
  • Excellent communicator with experience of decision-making skills and negotiating ability.
  • Committed to being flexible and versatile in order to meet the objectives of the Company and success of the business, and expect to carry out several different types of duty during a shift.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Customers (at all levels of their organisation), Freight Operating Companies, Network Rail, ORR, DfT, R.A.I.B., Terminal Operators, Road Hauliers, Contractors, Suppliers and Emergency Services.

Transport Supervisor – Consett, County Durham                                                        

 

The Russell Group is an expanding privately owned company which offers a range of end-to-end supply chain services by road, rail and sea.

 

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Transport Supervisor to join the team and work at one of our key Customer sites in Consett, County Durham. The Transport Supervisor will organise and control the daily transport operation to meet all legal requirements, provide a timely and cost effective delivery service, whilst promoting team work in a people orientated environment.


Key Responsibilities:-

 

will include but not be limited to:

  • Liaison with the onsite customer to ensure that their operational requirements are being met. 
  • Manually planning routes ensuring that all resource is fully optimised in the most cost effective manner.
  • Managing and organising the schedules and operational work of the transport function to meet all service level criteria.
  • Managing and developing drivers, dealing with any absence disciplinaries and grievance issues according to legislation and company policies.
  • Organising and controlling the allocation of vehicles to achieve weekly targets effectively within delivery schedule.
  • Monitoring the allocation of driver workloads to meet agreed delivery schedules whilst achieving KPI`S.
  • Produce daily reports to monitor the transport activities to ensure effective capture of costs and revenue generated.
  • Supporting the transport manager, to ensure the smooth running of the transport operation.
  • Monitoring and controlling driver de-briefing to ensure that agreed standards of performance are consistently achieved.
  • Conducting return to work interviews and absence management meetings. 
  • Promoting company health & safety and employment policies within the transport operation.
     

Key Capabilities:-

  • The ability to be able to plan ahead and work on own initiative.
  • National CPC (desirable)
  • Up to date knowledge of WTD, tachographs and related legislation
  • Up to date knowledge of H&S requirements
  • Excellent customer service and influencing skills
  • Experience of leading a team of drivers
  • Strong customer facing experience
  • Conversant with all MS Office applications
