What made you enter the competition?

For me I entered this competition because it’s always been a lifelong dream of mine to work in Formula One, and it is a sport I’ve always enjoyed so when the opportunity came along to be a part of F1 in schools I made sure I was going to do it as it is a brilliant gateway into F1 but also great for my personal statement for university. However, it was also great experience and something I knew I would enjoy.

Who were the team members?

We were a team of six, me Lucy the project manager, Summer the graphic designer, Farrah the design engineer, Iseral the sponsorship and marketing manager, Callum the finance manager and Caleb the manufacturing engineer. On the day only three of us could make it but it was still an enjoyable experience, and we could still showcase what the other three had done. We were very proud of the fact we had woman in our team, as this is an area where there's a limited number of woman and it was something we noticed on the day.

What did the competition involve?

It involved us coming together as a team to design and produce a miniature Formula One car that would be eventually raced along other teams from around Scotland. We had to pick individual roles in our team of six, me personally I was the Project Manager so had to lead the team and give the people in my team jobs to do to make sure we met deadlines and optimized our individual skills. We made our car on a CAD software following the strict rules and regulations given put in place by the competition organizers. When our car was produced and delivered to us, we got to sanding and painting our car and assembling the pieces to make it. We raced it alongside 34 other cars on the day.

Why did you reach out to Carntyne Transport for sponsorship?

Something we felt strongly on was getting local support. We reached out to Carntyne Transport for sponsorship as our school St Andrews is based in Carntyne and we were so honoured when they got back to us wanting to be our main sponsor! Part of this project was to get sponsorship to display and promote on your car and merchandise but also so we could afford all the expenses this project demands. Including the cost of getting the car made, the paint, sandpaper, glue etc. Our merchandise which we chose hoodies and our entry fee for each member of our team.
