RHA’s National Lorry Week (23rd – 29th October) challenges old perceptions and celebrates the road transport industry. This year’s theme is “looking into the future” which aims to highlight the advancements in technology, sustainability, and safety across the road transport industry and the range of roles available.

We want to kick off National Lorry week by giving a big thanks to our amazing team who work to keep the world moving.

But we don’t just keep the world moving, we get careers moving too! The road transport sector offers limitless opportunities to develop and advance your career.

Take our Driver Trainer, William Milligan and HGV Driver, Andy McKie as a prime example.

William joined Carntyne Transport in 2020 as an LGV (ADR) driver after a full military career in the Army where he held his LGV licence for over 20 years. Two years into his career at Carntyne, he was selected to become our Driver Trainer. Following a gruelling 3-week course at Transport Training Academy in Birmingham, William became fully qualified to become a Driver Trainer and is now delivering training across all areas of the business, helping to ensure all training and compliance within the company is met.

When asked what the most rewarding part of his job was, William stated, “Seeing the drivers transition from the start of their journey at Carntyne Transport to seeing them out and about doing what they have been trained to do by me is very satisfying and rewarding.”

If you’re just starting out and have no explicit experience in the road transport sector, there’s opportunity for you to start a rewarding career too!

Andy McKie started and progressed his career in road transport while at Carntyne. Joining us as a caskhandler at 18 years old, it wasn’t long before Andy showed an interest in HGV driving. With Andy’s hard work and determination, and the assistance of our training staff, he became a fully qualified HGV driver within 3 years of joining the company.
